You're Invited to the State of the City Address!

The annual State of the City Address, hosted by the Marshall Area Chamber, provides community members, business leaders, and local stakeholders with an inside look at the current and future direction of Marshall.

Featuring updates from the Mayor and City Administrator, this event highlights key community initiatives, economic development, city projects, and priorities impacting Marshall's growth and quality of life. Attendees will gain valuable insight into the accomplishments, challenges, and opportunities shaping our community while hearing directly from local leadership. The public is encouraged to attend and be part of the conversation as we look ahead to the future of Marshall.

Meet Your Presenters

Mayor Bob Byrnes
Bob Byrnes was born and raised in Waukon, Iowa. Bob retired in 2019 following a 40 year career with the University of Minnesota where he served as State-Wide Director of Operations for the University of Minnesota Extension. After failing retirement, Bob has returned to the University five separate times. Bob served as a Marshall CIty Council Member 1986 - 1992 and Mayor 1992 to present and is involved in several community organizations. He is on the Board of Directors for the Southwest Regional Development Commission; past Chairman of the Board of Directors of Prairieland Economic Development Corporation; Chair of the MnDOT Area Transportation Partnership; Vice Chair of the
Highway 23 Coalition Board, Member of the State Active Transportation Board and Board Member of Habitat for Humanity of Redwood River.

Bob and his wife Brenda have two adult children and three granddaughters.

City Administrator Sharon Hanson

Sharon Hanson has been the City of Marshall City Administrator since 2017. She is responsible for the overall management and operation of the city, overseeing the budget, personnel, and its departments. The City Administrator also serves as the liaison between Division Directors, the city council, and the public.

Sharon and her husband, Mark, have two adult children.
